Melanie Keevil graduated with a degree in ceramics from Buckinghamshire College in 1990, and continued her studies at Chelsea and Kensington College in London. She has held several solo exhibitions in London and the Midlands, and her work is held in private collections worldwide, including America, Australia, Africa, France, Germany, Italy, Greece, and The Netherlands.
Now working from her garden studio in Birmingham, Keevil draws inspiration from the places she visits—particularly the coastlines and landscapes of Cornwall, Scotland, and the Mediterranean. She makes sketches and notes about rock formations, or the colours of sunsets over water, and is equally inspired by the play of light and shadow on weathered buildings as well as the lines and patterns found in stones and nature. Keevil hopes her work evokes a sense of place, while allowing viewers to draw on their own experiences, and create their own meaning.
