Violet Mareck graduated from the University of East London with a BA Hons in Fine Art, focussing on three dimensional and mixed media. In 2014, she moved to the Isle of Wight and set up her own studio space in Ryde. Mareck has exhibited regularly, showing her work in collaboration with other artists as well as in solo shows on the Isle of Wight and in London.
Mareck's work is realised through different mediums. Over the last few years, she has used clay, textiles and drawing. Recently, she has focused on her preoccupation with the mind, and how memories and circumstance influence who we are. The work often reflects on the impact of our demanding world, and how we store memories that comfort or resurface at unexpected times. The narrative permeating through Mareck's work reflects uncertainty, emotional pressures, and hope. Her heads made of clay and colour tints are summoned from ancient times, as well as the images of war and violence we face every day in the news. These heads comment on what we have become, reflecting the troubling times we currently face.
