"Place des souhaits depicts a tree outside the basilica at Fourviere, Lyon. I visited this site on a school trip when I was fourteen and then again this year, as my son is living there on his year abroad. Now there are eight to ten olive trees planted in huge pots, 'Trees of Wishes,' outside the basilica, and you can bring or buy a ribbon to write on a wish and tie it to the tree. I found it very moving that people were writing their thoughts and hopes on coloured ribbons and tying them to the trees. And the visual effect of it is quite joyful, with the colours against the silvery trees." - Melanie Goemans
