"In my work, romanticised landscapes represent a state of mind rather than a topographical record. With their golden glow, my landscapes offer up an air of tranquillity, just as sepia toned photographs often involuntary conjure up sad reveries. I strive towards portraying our perception of landscape as artifice, mythologised... as our own memories of the past quite often are. In positioning of the photograph to align with the landscape, I want to encourage a dialogue which compares and contrasts the past with the present not only historically, but emotionally. Virginia Woolf'sTo the Lighthouse explores the passage of time and has a connection with Cornwall, where I have lived for most of my life. Among the novel's many themes are those of time, loss, subjectivity, the nature of art, and the problem of perception. The young woman looks out directly at the viewer, almost asking something of you, or inviting you in." - Morwenna Morrison
